Discover Your Greatness

by on Mar.10, 2008, under Life Coaching

My friend and fellow life coach and blogger Tom Volkar of Delightful Work posted a grueling test to heighten our awareness … A kick in the pants to help us identify our greatness.

The test goes like this ..

You are locked in a cell with a lap top that will explode if you do not answer the following question authentically.

“What would you do or could you be doing to live the life of your dreams. The life you were meant to live?”

No boundaries .. Remove all obstacles.

Embrace the moment, have fun and answer the question!

Check out Tom’s blog at http://delightfulwork.com/2008/02/27/seize-your-greatness/ for a quick, yet thought provoking reality check.

Change is …

by on Mar.08, 2007, under Career Transition

We will be springing forward into daylight savings tomorrow. I’m ready for longer days, warmer weather and planting my garden. One of the best parts of living in the Midwest is immersing yourself in a new seasonal color palette. The season change made me think about how blessed we are as human beings to have the choice of renewal. We are magnificent creatures who may have no idea of our true capacity for joy and positive change.

Think about it. YOU hold the power to make your life anything you want it to be. Maybe you want to earn more money, get in better shape, live a healthier lifestyle or meet a special person. Maybe you want to write a best selling novel, meet a charismatic mentor or learn a new language. Why not start today?

One of the best ways to invite change is to start communicating your desires with your higher power, your loved ones and your notebook.

Last year at this time I suffered a short period of depression. A bad actress by day and an escape artist by night.

I was sleeping too much, emotionally overloaded and stress eating like a starved animal! I needed to make a change and fast. The outcome … It was time to move on from my 14 year “All I’ve ever known” career. The loss felt like more than I could handle.

My husband decided to get away for a much needed trip to Mexico. The time away helped me put my priorities in order. The downtime allowed for significant renewal and a greater understanding that it was ok to move on. My sales staff would be alright. The loyalty I once felt to the organization was melting away. I started letting go and realized I didn’t have to be attached to the outcome anymore.

I spent time from April through November working on my exit strategy. I moved on and the change has been exhilarating. Although I no longer have the “security” of my former job, cutting my ties saved my life. I realize this sounds a little over the top, but believe me, I would have become a fraction of myself had I stayed in an organization which no longer had use for my style of leadership. Sometimes you just have to move on.
