In Balance -Shann
Part of the new Shann Vander Leek Coaching System revolves around the ability to become mindful of each moment of joy you experience each day. I call this simple and powerful exercise Joy Spotting. Every time I bring Joy Spotting to a new audience or life coaching client, they get fired up about infusing more happiness into their lives.
Joy Spotting = Awareness
Joy Spotting is becoming aware of the great and crushing beauty that is all around you.
I challenge you to create a list of items, experiences and moments which make you feel joyful for one day. Hell, you may even have more than 10, but for this challenge, let’s set the bar at 10 joyful experiences to track for one day. If you come away enjoying the experience, keep it up!
My list for the day includes:
- Marin’s sleepy morning face
- A great cup of coffee
- Laughing with friends over lunch
- Getting great feedback from a coaching client
- Patrolling my flower gardens
- Recording a silly audio for an old friend
- Thinking about going to see Peter Gabriel in concert
- Catching up with my Mom on the way into TC
- Listening to Lyle Lovett’s music being blasted from somewhere in the neighborhood
- Thinking about my family coming home after school and work
Speaking of family, I suggest sharing what you observed throughout the day with your loved ones at the dinner table. Tom, Marin and I generally share our Top 5. Joy Spotting has been a great way to keep our family close. And, even when one of us has faced a difficult day, we can always come up with at least five items that made us pause and smile.
What’s on your Joy Spotting list?
