What to do When Your Well Runs Dry

by Shann on May.27, 2009, under Inspiration, Personal Development, Reinventing Yourself

A majority of the life coaching clients I play with are creative women in transition. Whether they are looking at career changes, lifestyle changes or have just begun to figure out what makes them tick, the common thread these women often share is “My well is dry.” Feeling like they do not have anything left to give and looking at me cross eyed when I recommend making some time for themselves. Too many women are totally overwhelmed by all they have to do and all of the roles they play,  praying there must be more to life than a never ending list of responsibilities.

A lucky few have decided to create a better life by stepping off of the fast paced treadmill of things to do, seemingly blasting by the essence of who they are.

If you share this feeling that your well is dry, I have a couple of questions for you.

  1. What might it look like to live a life overflowing with abundance including time to be more then the roles you play?
  2. How do you want to define yourself in the next chapter of your life?

When you have answered these questions you are ready to tap into an overflowing well of inspiration.

Filling your well might look like this:

  • Evaluate your commitments

How much are you asking of yourself outside of work, family, and social time? Are you filling up every second of your time with tasks and responsibilities? Can you carve out an hour of time for yourself every day? What can you let go of?

  • Get Silly!

One of the best teachers in my life is my daughter Marin.  This child is straight silly. While discussing what to make for dinner the other night we mentioned making big tossed salads. Within moments Marin was singing “Big Tossed Salad” and dancing around the laundry room.  Children have a way of reminding us to be silly.  Get your silly on!

  • Ask For Help

When is the last time you asked a friend, peer or family member for help? Are you trying to do to much on your own? You are not meant to be a martyr. You are not weak if you ask for assistance. You are only as strong as your network of support. Reach out and allow yourself the help you need.

  • Create a Collage of Beautiful Pictures

Have you ever created a collage? It’s easy. Grab a few magazines and catalogs, construction paper, glue stick and a pair of scissors and get down to business. You can quickly create your theme with bold phrases and colorful pictures that call out to you from each page. When you are finished put your collage in a space where you can admire it. If you have children this is a great activity to do together.

  • Quiet reflection

Your life is a gift. You deserve more time to play and wonder where your life could lead. You do not have to be so frigging serious all the time. Lighten up and enjoy what each day brings. Part of lightening up is spending time alone in mediation or surrounded by natural beauty. You deserve peaceful time to balance how much of yourself you give away.

Nothing new here …

Just my take on how you can fill up your well and begin to enjoy the life choices you make in awareness.

Here is a helpful mantra or phrase I use when I’m feeling worn out and empty. Try it out.

“My life is a gift. I am filled with love and lightness. I deserve to be happy and fulfilled.”

How will you fill your well today?

Spring in Full Bloom

by Shann on May.21, 2009, under Life Coaching

dsc03956Old Mission Cherry Blossoms

Greetings from the Land of Delight!

I love this time of year in northern Michigan.

Our cherry blossoms are peaking, delicate purple lilacs are in bloom, and the weather is warming up just in time for the holiday weekend.

Fresh cut Lilacs fill up my senses with their luscious sweet scent. The wind rustles through brand new leaves on the giant Maple tree outside my window. The northern sky is getting ready to unleash some much needed spring rain.

Cheers to a little bit of heaven in Leelanau County.

I am grateful to live, work and play in this part of the world.

Love is Letting Go of Fear - A Review

by Shann on May.18, 2009, under Life Coaching, Personal Development

“It is our prayer that as we heal our own minds of fear and negativity the world we see will be healed along with us” -Gerald Jampolsky M.D.

In the timeless book Love is letting Go of Fear, Gerald Jampolsky, M.D. illustrates the art of  personal transformation through letting go of the past, staying focused on the present  and moving confidently toward your future.

This book is a must have for anybody interested in learning how to walk in gratitude. While reading this little treasure for the third time … It occurred to me that the book is 30 years old and many of you may have not heard of this poignant work of love.

Here us a brief look at each simple, yet profound lesson:

All that I give I give to myself

- To give is to receive is the law of love. When we give our love away to others we gain and what we give we simultaneously receive.

Forgiveness is the key to happiness

-Inner peace can be reached only when we practice forgiveness.

I am never upset for the reason I think

-Most of us have a belief system based on past experiences and on perceptions from the physical senses. This belief system presumes that the outside wold is the CASUE an we are the EFFECT.

I am determined to see things differently

- The world we see that seems so insane may be the result of a belief system that isn’t working. It is our memory of fear and pain that make us so vulnerable. The vulnerability makes us want to predict and control our future at all costs.

Giving up Attacking thoughts

-Many of us feel  at times that we are hopelessly trapped in the world we see. If we remember that it is our thoughts that make up the world, we can change them.

I am not he victim of the world I see

Do you ever feel like you are a victim of the world in which you live? When we allow ourselves to think that we live in a unfriendly environment where we fear being hurt of victimized, we suffer. To be consistent in achieving inner peace , we must perceive a world where everyone is innocent.

Today I will judge nothing

-Have you given yourself the opportunity of going through an entire day accepting yourself and everyone without judgement?

The instant is the only time there is

-I am determined to live today without past of future fantasies. I will remind myself: This instant is the only time there is.

The past is over it can touch me not

-When we think we have been hurt  by someone in the past, we create defenses to keep ourselves from being hurt in the future. By forgiving and letting go of the past, I free myself from the painful burdens I have carried into the future.

I could see peace instead of this

-Most of us go through life with a belief system that our happiness is largely determined by the events in our environment and reactions of other people to us. We need to instruct out minds to change our perceptions of the world and everything in it.

I can elect to change all thoughts that hurt

-Free will and choice are inherent attributes of the mind. WE can choose to let go of everything but our loving thoughts.

I am responsible for what I see

-I choose the feelings experience, and I decide upon the goal I would achieve.  And everything that happens to me, I ask for, and receive as I have asked.

This treasured little book can be devoured in an hour and savored for a life time. Pick up a copy Here at Amazon for under $10.

Enjoy!
